spring when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman
whistles far and wee
and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it's
spring
when the world is puddle-wonderful
the queer
old balloonman whistles
far and wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing
from hop-scotch and jump-rope and
it's
spring
and
the
goat-footed
balloonMan whistles
far
and
wee
e.e. cummings
I first encountered this poem in my poetry class last year. Even before we dissected and interpreted it as a class, I was intrigued by it. It could've been because the unique layout of the poem or the odd placement and juxtaposition of words...I honestly don't really know, but I was drawn to it. Anyway, it's really eery, but I really like it. Read it a couple of times and try to figure out what it's all about.
