afternoon tee

We often overlook just how important those t-shirts we throw on five minutes before heading out the door truly are. A simple t-shirt has the ability to bring a look from boring to "effortlessly chic" (this term is used far too often, but when you look damn fine and all you're working with is a t-shirt and some jeans, effortless & chic is pretty much the only way to describe it). It's hard to justify spending over $40 on a plain cotton tee, but when you find the perfect one, the one you can't take off because it makes everything look good, I think it's worth it.

A few weeks ago, I bought a sheer black backless tank from Alexander Wang's T line. I think I've worn it about 3-4 times a week since. Agreed, agreed, it's not too hygienic, but I can't help it. I've since been on the lookout for more shirts of that nature. Recently, I stumbled upon fellow Canadian Erin Kleinberg's line. It appears she's got the whole slouchy, sexy top thing down with the added bonus of some embellishments that separate her products from those at forever21. The company is still pretty small, but its been picked up by stores like Barneys, Intermix and Holt Renfrew (Canada), and recognized by Elle and Nylon, amongst other popular mags. While I haven't purchased anything yet, I'll keeping an eye out for the brand and definitely consider the investment.

Operation Barbierossa

In honor of her 50th birthday, Barbie was the fashion world's it-girl this year. She had an entire fashion show based on her and a Malibu Dream House themed party, amongst other Barbie-themed soirees. Most notably, in my mind anyway, was the almost month-long exhibition at Collette that featured tons of Barbie themed apparel, accessories and beauty products from a wide-range of well-known brands like Jeremy Scott and Stila. And let's not forget about Karl Lagerfeld's little involvement in the whole shabang - Baptiste Giabiconi and Barbie dressed up and photographed by the man himself, how can you not be down?

Regardless, this all happened ages ago...Let's fast forward to now. Christian Louboutin has designed a limited edition "cat burglar" Barbie doll that comes with 4 pairs of loubs, their boxes and dust bags.

My plastic bff + a damn fine shoe designer? Hi, hey, hi. This is amazing.

So yes, it may seem a bit odd to some that my #1 present on my Hanukkah list is about the same as it was when I was in second grade, but Barbie will always be my number one gal pal.

Ksubi

Ksubi S/S '10 eyewear, very reminiscent of those Chanel sunglasses that never left my wishlist. I'll be keeping an eye out for this snazzy alternative.

Inspired by Joelle van Dyne's recent post about a Lulu Guinness event, I realized a lip clutch is exactly what I need in my closet. Classic, practical, discreet - it's perfect! Okay, well maybe not so much...but I'm simply swooning over it regardless. It comes in a variety of colors and materials, but I've got my eye on red patent. I have multiple outfits conjured up that just wouldn't be the same without it! What's a girl to do? pray, save, pray, save, pray, save, findgenerousfriends(hinthinthint).

For winter, I'm craving perfectly manicured cream nails & the perfect shade of reddish/purple lipstick. Can't go wrong with that, now can you?

Some creations by Eddie Borgo that I would love to get my hands on, or get on my hands rather. Oddly enough, I'm not too wild about his spike/stud work (though I wouldn't complain if it happened to appear in my jewelry box). I do, however, love this stuff and the stained-glass inspired pieces he made for Phillip Lim.

Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town

A recently rediscovered old favorite of mine, and now I can't stop, won't stop listening to it. Enjoy.

chokeitout

I've recently been inspired by one of Becky's looks on Full House. She was wearing an oversized red crocheted sweater (like sooooo totally in right now) and black leggings, topped off with a black cross choker. Yeup, choker. I know, I know, the word itself brings up bad memories of the henna ones we used to never leave the house without (circa 2003? 2004?). But this one was a simple black velvet ribbon with a cross. I'd delete the cross because I'm not a big fan of that trend and my jew roots wouldn't approve. Summin like Daniela Bianchini as Tatiana Romanova:

"When people think of fashion, they prefer to see the crazy side, the clichéd side, and actually I think that is wrong. Fashion is an important part of a woman's life. It's a question of aesthetics and that is in no way stupid or superficial."- Miuccia Prada via The Independent.

Organized clutter that happens to be nice to look at. Mirrors for my vanity, but also as decoration. Modern colours that pop on antique furniture. Ideal room, hands down.

I think a person's desktop speaks volumes about the person themselves. I love taking a peek at people's desktops. Is it overloaded with stickies? Is it immaculate? Do they have a twilight background? Look at mine. It's messy. You wouldn't be wrong to call me messy either. Send me desktop pics via comments s.v.p. I luhhh2cdatshi-.
Well hello blogosphere,

I don't want to get your hopes up by saying that I'm back and ready for action, but I'm feeling a bit inspired to start blogging again.
My partner in crime, MonesBones, and I have been discussing an exciting blog of our wild ways called Fun for Freaks (because that's what we are and that's what we like). It's currently a mere idea, but should it come to fruition, I'll be sure to let y'all know.

Onwards with the program...
I've been working on two blogs here at SKWL and I think everyone should check them out. They're both consistent in their posting and they're pretty damn fine, if I do say so myself.

Cuse Clothes Line - a new blog on campus formed from a class project and taken over by grad student, Phillip Crook. Two beats per day, every weekday.

Zipped Blog - the web component to the popular campus fashion mag Zipped. It's in its first year of web operation, huzzah!
